Trumpet Biography

Jon’s took up the cornet aged seven, just ten years later his achievements included;

Youngest ever member and 9 years service with Whickham School Band

Solo Cornet with the Championship section Newcastle Brown Ale Brass Band

Principal Trumpet & Concerto Soloist in the USA with NYCO

2nd Trumpet with the Young Sinfonia

Concert performances with the Northern Sinfonia

Grade 8 ABRSM Cornet

Jon studied with Richard Martin (Northern Sinfonia) before accepting a place at the Guildhall School of Music alongside luminaries such as Alison Balsom.

He graduated after studies with Paul Benniston (Principal LPO), Anne McAneny (LPO), Paul Cosh (BBC Symphony Orchestra) and Steve Keavy (Amsterdam Baroque).

Masterclasses with Murray Gregg (Opera North), John Miller (Principal RNCM) and Rod Franks (LSO) were complemented by solo performances and recitals throughout the world alongside TV & Radio broadcasts.

Highlights included playing for the Royal Family, Archbishop of Canterbury and Millennium Bridge opening. Concerts included venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, The Barbican Centre, Philharmonic Hall (Liverpool), Liverpool Cathedral. The Anvil (Basingstoke), Newcastle Cathedral, Newcastle Theatre Royal, Newcastle Race Course, Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club, Sunderland's Stadium of Light and the Edinburgh Festival.

Overseas tours included Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Holland, Italy and The USA.

In 2003, Jon made the difficult decision to concentrate entirely on his vocal career and sold almost all of his 15 trumpets. Despite some recording and film soundtrack credits, his trumpet career is now focused solely on teaching.

Piano Biography

Jon began his piano studies at an early age with his father Michael, culminating in studies with Peter Bithell at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

After an excellent Grade 8 ABRSM examination result, Jon began teaching in 1999. Frequent forays into the world of accompanying have ranged from Brahms Cello Sonata with celebrated Cellist and conductor Jonathan Bloxham to accompanying the renowned mezzo soprano (Susan Legg).

Solo appearances have included Mozart sonatas, recordings and performances on Film soundtracks.
